about

This is an old NB folk song that was written by an "Alec Norrad". I heard it sung by Wilmot MacDonald on an old 1963 archived recording captured by Edward "Sandy" Ives at Wilmot's home in Glenwood NB

lyrics

When It's first to this country a stranger I came
I set my affection on a dame. Her hair was black and her eyes was green.
She said "Oh I'll do anything right toor a noor. Right toor a nadyo, toor a noor a noor eye a

Oh I says "Young maid what is your name?" She answered kindly "Susan Jane. I used to run a sewing machine but tonight I could run anything. Right toor a noor.....

She says "Young man what is your trade?"
"I'm a good a teamster as ever was made! I used to drive a truckman's team but tonight I could drive anything. Right toor a noor....

Oh she says "Young man your'e the man for me! Your'e just the man I long to see come hitch your horse to my machine and will play the game called anything. Right toor a noor.....

Oh she says "young man now not too fast, for the swiftest can be caught at last. I see your horse is good and keen but look he's stuck on my machine right toor a noor....

Oh it's now kind people don't accuse me wrong! You asked me for to sing one song. I asked you kindly what I might sing and the answer was "Oh Anything" Right Toor a Noor.....
