about

This beautiful song penned by Winnifred Lamson nee Robinson, sometime in in the early 1900's was "borrowed, shall we say by NB Country Hall of Fame member Karl Lofstrom. Lynn Macdonald sang me this song the way she was taught it from her mother in the 1940's. This version is vastly different from Karl's leading me to believe that we have the closest version to the one penned by Winnifred

lyrics

In the pretty Nashwaak valley lies my old home by the stream
it is there my thoughts will wander back again
and oft’ as twilight’s of falling there I love to sit and dream
of the happy days I spent with sweet Lorraine
the birds were gayly singing as we wandered by the stream
and I whispered in her ear the story old
and no music sounded sweeter as she said I love but you
and the sunset turned the water blue to gold
Where the Nashwaak stream is flowing and the fairest roses grow
where the summer breeze is blowing it is there I long to go
where my little girl is waiting with a love that’s fond and true
where the Nashwaak stream is flowing there I’ll return to you
Many years have passed and gone now
fond memories return and I long again to linger by the stream
just to hear the robins singing as they did in days gone bye
and to hold my sweethearts hand and and see her smile
the roses and the violets they still bloom beside the stream
and a maidens waiting there with eyes of blue
and I know her heart is yearning so someday I will return
to claim her with a love that’s fond and true
